Our Impact
Every year, families across our communities are left searching for answers after a loved one disappears or dies under suspicious circumstances. Too often, these cases fade from public attention - leaving families feeling unheard, unsupported, and alone.
The Reopen the Case Foundation (RTCF) was created to bring attention to the cases that never received the attention they deserve.
Through investigative storytelling, media partnerships, and community engagement, RTCF shines a light on unsolved homicides, suspicious deaths, and missing persons cases-particularly those that have been overlooked or forgotten.
Each story we highlight represents a real person whose life mattered and a family that still deserves answers.
That is why RTCF created the Missing Person Family Guide — a practical resource designed to help families organize critical information and understand what steps to take.
At RTCF, we believe no family should have to navigate these situations alone.
The Scope of the Problem

Homicide clearance rates have fallen below 50% in recent years.
Virginia: Hundreds of unresolved cases remain active, including long-term missing persons and homicide investigations.
These numbers highlight why public visibility, community awareness, and continued information sharing matter.
